The Ottawa Rapid have appointed Carmelina Moscato, a former Canadian national team defender, as their new head coach for the upcoming season. Moscato, a Canada Soccer Hall of Famer who participated in multiple Women’s World Cups and earned a bronze medal in the 2012 Olympics, brings a wealth of experience to the role after coaching stints in Denmark, Mexico, and most recently Saudi Arabia.
After the current head coach Katrine Pedersen announced her departure from the Northern Super League leaders at the end of the season, Moscato will take over the coaching responsibilities. The Rapid have signed Moscato on a two-season contract, and she will begin working with the team this year to prepare for the 2027 season, focusing on recruitment efforts.
Team CEO Thomas Gilbert expressed confidence in Moscato, highlighting her leadership qualities, coaching expertise, and knowledge of Canadian soccer. Moscato also shared her excitement about joining the Rapid, aiming to continue the team’s progress and create an environment conducive to player development and high-level competition.
The Ottawa Rapid currently lead the NSL standings with 10 victories in 15 matches, maintaining a strong position with their last defeat dating back to late May. Their upcoming game is scheduled in Calgary on Saturday at 4 p.m., with live coverage available on CBC Gem.
