Christine McGuinness has faced challenging times in recent years, balancing her public life as a mother of three and navigating a high-profile divorce from her husband of 11 years, TV personality Paddy, in 2024. Despite the trials, the former model now shares that she is in a positive space, although the journey has not been without its difficulties.
“I’m feeling really good now. This year has been tough as I’ve just come off my medication. I’ve been on ADHD medication for the past year – I practically begged my doctor for help because I couldn’t handle things,” candidly reveals Christine, 37, during a conversation at the Pride of Britain event. “Between the divorce, the scrutiny on my personal life, and dating – it was quite overwhelming.”
Christine, who received diagnoses of autism and ADHD in 2021, has been transparent about her experiences with neurodiversity, expressing her desire to raise awareness and provide support to others. Her three children with Paddy – twins Leo and Penelope, both 12, and Felicity, nine – are also on the autism spectrum.
Although Paddy and Christine announced their separation in June 2022, they chose to continue living together for the well-being of their children, who thrive on routine and stability. This unconventional arrangement has drawn attention to their private lives, which Christine finds challenging to navigate.
“I’m constantly thinking about my children and how this fame will impact them. I’ve had to contemplate if I’m in the right industry and if I can carry on,” she reflects.
Despite her concerns, Christine has decided to pursue her passion and remain in the entertainment industry. “I love what I do in this field, but when I think about my children and how public attention might affect their lives, I sometimes wonder if it’s the best choice.”
Being a mother is Christine’s most cherished role, and she speaks fondly of her children during the conversation. “I always encourage them to be themselves and not imitate anyone else. They are growing into mature, lovely little individuals.”
The challenges of recent years have led Christine to be more cautious about sharing her personal life. “I’m more selective about who I confide in and how much I reveal about myself now. I’d say my guard is always up a bit.”
One constant support for Christine is her close friend, presenter Will Njobvu, who joins her during the interview. Speculation arises about Christine potentially appearing on this year’s I’m a Celebrity, though she remains coy about the topic.
While contemplating the possibility of participating in the show, Christine admits her fears, particularly her aversion to spiders, heights, and eating insects. Despite the challenges, she acknowledges the benefits of pushing herself out of her comfort zone through previous experiences on shows like Pilgrimage and Celebrity Hunted.
