Donald Trump recently caused controversy by sharing an AI-generated video depicting himself as a king bombing protesters with a substance resembling feces. The video, posted on Truth Social, featured the former Republican president piloting a fighter jet labeled “King Trump” and wearing a crown, reminiscent of the movie Top Gun. The clip showed Trump flying over a city and dumping the brown material on protesters, with additional scenes in New York.
The video, widely criticized online, was a response to the “No Kings” protests happening across the US, where demonstrators expressed concerns about Trump’s perceived consolidation of power at the expense of other government branches. Among the protesters’ grievances was the conduct of immigration enforcement agency ICE, accused of detaining individuals without due process and lacking accountability.
Reactions to the video varied, with journalist Taylor Lorenz highlighting Trump’s targeting of a Gen Z influencer in the video, and Brett Meiselas from MeidasTouch network describing the video as Trump figuratively defecating on America. Republicans denounced the protests as “hate America” rallies, marking the third significant demonstration movement since Trump’s return to the political scene.
Democrats, under scrutiny for their response to Trump, have shown signs of resistance, with senior party members taking a tougher stance, such as allowing a government shutdown to prevent healthcare cuts. Ezra Levin from Indivisible praised the Democrats for showing resilience, emphasizing the importance of not yielding to Trump’s actions.
