A deadly shooting occurred at a rave in the northern Swiss canton of Aargau early Sunday, resulting in one fatality and five injuries, according to local authorities and media sources. The police are actively searching for the perpetrator while stating that the motives behind the crime and the exact circumstances are still unclear.
A 22-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries at the scene, while four men and one woman, aged between 24 and 27, were hospitalized with injuries of varying severity. All the victims are Swiss residents, but their identities have not been disclosed to adhere to privacy regulations in Switzerland.
The incident took place during the Aarau Rave VOL. 7 event at the Schachen horse racing track in the district of Schachen, Aarau’s capital, located 46 kilometers west of Zurich. The police were alerted about the shooting around 2:30 a.m., initiating a major operation in the area.
Authorities urged locals to avoid the vicinity as emergency services, including police, firefighters, and ambulances, responded to the scene. Additionally, police from Freiburg, Germany, participated in the search for the suspect.
Eyewitnesses initially confused the gunshots for fireworks until someone shouted for everyone to take cover. The shooting occurred right after the rave concluded, following which the remaining attendees were escorted to a nearby gym by the police.
Police have requested any potential witnesses with videos or photos of the incident to come forward and share the material. The Aargau Racing Club, which manages the venue, expressed deep sorrow for the victims and their families, praising the professionalism and dedication of the emergency responders.
Swiss DJ Tekibo, who performed at the event, expressed his devastation on Instagram, emphasizing that such violence has no place in the techno and rave community, which should be synonymous with freedom and safety.
Aarau, a city with a population of 22,300, lies approximately 30 kilometers south of the German border. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, with authorities actively pursuing leads to apprehend the suspect.
