Epic Games, the creator of Fortnite, has revealed its upcoming update for 2026, set to roll out on various platforms including PlayStation 5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, and mobile devices.
This long-awaited update will bring numerous adjustments to the gameplay mechanics along with the introduction of fresh skins and items inspired by the popular show South Park. Additionally, a new feature of five-player Squads for Battle Royale is in the works, expected to be available until early February.
The update, officially designated as 39.20, is scheduled to be launched on January 9 as confirmed by Epic Games. The release will lead to a temporary server downtime starting at 9am GMT UK time, 1am PDT / 4am EDT for US players, and 10am CET for European users.
Epic Games made the announcement on X stating, “Round up your Quint and lock in! Downtime for v39.20 begins at 4 AM ET (09:00 UTC). Matchmaking will be disabled 30 minutes prior.”
During the downtime, expected to last two hours, players can anticipate the addition of South Park skins and items, including a bundle featuring characters like Stan, Cartman, Butters, Kenny, and Kyle, available post-downtime.
Moreover, Epic Games will offer free South Park items through a mini Battle Pass, presenting unlockable accessories such as the Backpack of CRED Back Bling, Terrance and Phillip Pickaxe, and Cheesy Poofs Rocketship Emote. Completing the Battle Pass by February 5 unlocks the Imaginationland Airship Glider.
Players can also look forward to South Park-themed gameplay elements, such as the Stick of Truth for manipulating the storm and the Cheesy Poofs item for quick health restoration and tactical usage.
Another exclusive in-game item is Kenny’s Respawn Token, ensuring automatic respawn for eliminated players. Fans can explore Cartmanland, a virtual theme park featuring unique rides like CHAOS BLAST and Voyage to the Center of the Planet.
In addition to the South Park crossover, Epic Games will introduce a new Limited Time Mode (LTM) for five-player squads, Battle Pass Super Styles, and potential end-of-season content.
For fixes, Epic Games is addressing issues like the incorrect appearance of the Magnetic Steps Glider and various Battle Royale glitches, ensuring a smoother and more enjoyable gaming experience for players across platforms.
