UK households relying on Freeview for television entertainment are advised to check and potentially retune their equipment as channel changes have been announced. While not a major overhaul, performing a quick retune will ensure that TVs are fully updated.
Freeview has confirmed that on May 20, 2026, several broadcasters are adjusting their channels. It is recommended to retune your TV to keep your channels and TV guide current.
Among the changes, two channels have been renamed. Hobbycraft TV on channel 97 is now known as Shop Unlimited, and Great! Romance Mix on channel 61 has been replaced by Great! TV +1.
Additionally, there are alterations to channel numbers. Great! Movies is shifting from channel 61 to channel 62, with Great! TV +1 moving to channel 61.
Freeview emphasized that channel providers are continuously evolving their offerings, leading to channel movements, additions, or removals. Freeview aims to provide audiences with a diverse and engaging content selection.
If the updates do not automatically appear on your TV, manual retuning may be necessary. To retune your TV:
– Press the menu button on your TV or set-top box remote
– Select “set-up”, “installation”, “update”, or a similar option
– If prompted for a password, try “1234” or “0000”
– Choose “first-time installation”, “factory reset”, “full retune”, or “default settings”
– Press “OK” to confirm deletion of existing channels if prompted
– The retuning process should commence automatically
– Save any channels found during the scan if prompted
