Canada’s national police force announced on Monday that a 51-year-old man from Montreal has been arrested for allegedly making death threats against Prime Minister Mark Carney. Marc-André Porlier faces charges of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, as stated in an RCMP press release. The threats were reportedly communicated via email to various individuals, including a senator, the police disclosed.
According to the charge sheet, the accused also made threats against “all Canadian police officers.” Porlier had previously been convicted of arson and mischief for setting fire to a church in Toronto in 2017, as confirmed by law enforcement officials. At the time of the recent arrest, he was still serving probation for those offenses, a spokesperson for the RCMP mentioned.
Porlier made a court appearance on Saturday, as detailed in the news release. It is important to note that the charges laid against him are yet to be proven in court.
