Following the Montreal Roses’ exit from the W Canadian Championship, the team made public the dismissal of their inaugural head coach, Robert Rositoiu. Marinette Pichon, the club’s sports director, officially announced the decision on Thursday morning. Pichon expressed gratitude towards Rositoiu for his foundational work with the professional women’s soccer club during its early stages.
In a released statement, the club articulated that parting ways with the coach was a difficult but necessary choice made with respect for his professionalism. The decision was driven by the belief that a fresh perspective is required to navigate the remainder of the season and propel the club’s progress.
The Montreal Roses currently hold the second spot in the Northern Super League (NSL) with 27 points, and they have 10 matches remaining in the regular season. Rositoiu assumed the role of head coach in September 2024 in preparation for the team’s debut season in the NSL in 2025.
Maryse Bard-Martel, who previously served as the team’s first assistant coach and head of goalkeeping, will step in as the interim head coach while the club undertakes the process of selecting a permanent replacement for Rositoiu. Bard-Martel will be in charge for the upcoming match against AFC Toronto on Sunday.
