Amber Kissell, a 45-year-old mother, faced a harrowing journey to her cancer diagnosis. Despite experiencing symptoms like fatigue, bowel issues, and weight loss, she was initially misdiagnosed with haemorrhoids. It wasn’t until she underwent a colonoscopy that doctors discovered she had advanced stage four colon cancer that had spread to her liver and lymph nodes.

Following 12 rounds of chemotherapy, Amber’s tumors vanished, and she has been in remission ever since. Recalling the emotional turmoil of her diagnosis, she expressed how her life flashed before her eyes, especially with young children to care for. Despite being repeatedly told she was too young for cancer, her persistence led to the life-saving diagnosis.

After her second child’s birth in 2015, Amber’s health deteriorated, with blood in her stool and persistent fatigue. Doctors initially attributed her symptoms to a fissure, dismissing her concerns. As her condition worsened, she sought answers, ultimately leading to the shocking cancer discovery.

Despite the grim prognosis, Amber’s determination and medical treatment proved successful. After intensive chemotherapy and surgery, she defied the odds and saw her tumors vanish. Nearly a decade later, Amber continues to defy the disease, only requiring yearly check-ups to monitor her health.

Amber’s story serves as a reminder of the importance of advocating for one’s health and seeking second opinions when faced with medical uncertainties. Her resilience and the timely intervention of medical professionals were instrumental in her remarkable recovery.
