Prince Andrew is back in the spotlight amid allegations that he attempted to convince the Metropolitan Police to launch a smear campaign against Virginia Giuffre, a victim of sexual offenses. It has been reported that Andrew instructed his Met bodyguard, who was a member of the elite SO14 Royalty Protection Group, to investigate Giuffre by providing her personal information. Additionally, he is said to have involved one of Queen Elizabeth’s senior aides, Ed Perkins, in the matter.
A leaked email obtained by The Mail on Sunday reveals that Andrew allegedly contacted Perkins just before a controversial photo of him and Giuffre was published. In the email, Andrew accused Giuffre of having a criminal record in the United States, a claim that her family has refuted. The Metropolitan Police has acknowledged the claims and stated that they are actively reviewing the situation, although no formal investigation has been initiated.
Broadcaster Emily Maitlis expressed support for the police’s actions, emphasizing the importance of seeking justice for victims. She also highlighted Andrew’s continued communication with Jeffrey Epstein, questioning the nature of their relationship. Energy Secretary Ed Miliband echoed concerns over the allegations and emphasized the inappropriate use of close protection officers in such situations.
Regarding the possibility of stripping Andrew of his titles, Miliband emphasized that any decision would be guided by the Royal Family’s stance. Giuffre’s relatives condemned the alleged email as an attempt to discredit survivors, expressing confidence that the truth will eventually come to light.
