Vladimir Putin has conducted a successful test of a nuclear torpedo with the capability to devastate extensive coastlines, describing it as a major achievement. This new weapon, similar to those held in the nuclear arsenals of the US and UK, can trigger radioactive tsunamis that would render coastal areas uninhabitable. Putin emphasized the significance of the test, stating that it marked the first successful launch of the device from a carrier submarine with its nuclear power unit activated.

Named Poseidon, the torpedo’s power surpasses that of the Russian-developed Sarmat intercontinental missile, also known as Satan II. The recent tests by Russia included the activation of the “Flying Chernobyl,” a low-flying experimental cruise missile reportedly fueled by a nuclear reactor and capable of indefinite range travel. General Valery Gerasimov highlighted the missile’s evasion capabilities against air and missile defense systems, emphasizing its precision in targeting heavily fortified locations regardless of distance.

The test was interpreted as a response to the breakdown of discussions between Donald Trump and Putin regarding the conflict in Ukraine. In reaction to the Russian tests, Trump mentioned the presence of a US nuclear submarine near the Russian coast, downplaying the significance of the Russian demonstrations. Trump urged Putin to focus on ending the prolonged conflict in Ukraine rather than engaging in missile testing activities.
