After an intense few days at the Newfoundland and Labrador Summer Games, the initial phase of the competition is coming to a close. The Corner Brook Civic Centre was a hub of activity as ball hockey players from various parts of the province vied for medals on Tuesday.
In the gold medal match, Team Mount Pearl South emerged victorious over Team Avalon with a close 4-3 scoreline. Thirteen-year-old Raine Foss from Paradise sealed the win with a decisive goal and expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to compete, stating, “It’s great to represent MPS. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance.”
Raine’s teammate, Reid Swain, expressed his excitement at leaving Corner Brook with a gold medal, emphasizing the team’s hard work over the past few months. Despite initial doubts, the team’s perseverance paid off, leaving them with a sense of accomplishment.
While Ryan Walsh from Team Avalon did not achieve the desired medal color, he cherished the fun memories made during the event, highlighting the camaraderie and experiences shared with fellow athletes.
Team Central secured the bronze medal, a source of pride for 14-year-old Jack Stone from Grand Falls-Windsor. Stone expressed his joy and satisfaction at the unexpected success, emphasizing the rewarding feeling of coming home with a medal.
