CBC’s reality show, The Assembly, is back for its second season featuring six fresh celebrity interviews and over 30 neurodivergent and autistic adults as interviewers. Notable actors such as Hudson Williams (Heated Rivalry), Zach Galifianakis (The Hangover), and Jay Baruchel (This is the End) are among the celebrities facing the tough questions this season.
The new season, spanning six episodes, includes guests like actor and Miss Universe Canada Ashley Callingbull (North of North), singer-songwriter Lights, and Olympic hockey gold medallist Marie-Philip Poulin. Each celebrity undergoes an unfiltered interview that delves beyond typical promotional discussions, often touching on personal and unexpected topics.
The show’s appeal lies in its candid nature, allowing for genuine interactions, humor, and moments of connection. The Assembly fosters an environment for both revelations and laughter, creating a unique viewing experience.
Adapted from the French series Les Rencontres du Papotin, the show’s format originated in 2022 with guests like Killing Eve star Camille Cottin and French President Emmanuel Macron. The concept has since gained international popularity, with versions featuring renowned personalities such as Antonio Banderas, Michael Sheen, David Tennant, and Stephen Fry.
The inaugural season of The Assembly garnered accolades, including a Canadian Screen Award for best direction, three Telly Awards, a Golden Sheaf Award at the Yorkton Film Festival, and a Banff Rockie Award nomination.
CBC executives Jennifer Dettman and Stephen Sawchuk emphasize the show’s refreshing energy and promise more heart, humor, and authentic conversations in the new season. Executive producer Sean De Vries notes that the series’ focus on human connection is striking a chord with audiences.
Produced by Small Army Entertainment in Vancouver, The Assembly Season 2 premieres on Sunday, November 1, at 9 p.m. ET on CBC TV and CBC Gem. Exclusive “producer’s cuts” will be available on CBC Gem starting at 9 a.m. ET on the same day.
