Gazza recently shared with the Mirror his struggle with alcohol, stating he cannot resist drinking. During his return from rehab in 2013, he encountered a peculiar incident when police in the US detained him due to his excessive purchase of Beef Jerky.
Having acquired 20 packs of the dehydrated meat snack to bring back to the UK, Gazza found himself surrounded by law enforcement at an Arizona airport. Recalling the event, he humorously mentioned his fondness for beef jerky, leading to the misunderstanding.
Despite his innocent intentions, the police mistook his beef jerky stash for illicit substances, prompting them to search his belongings with sniffer dogs. Gazza humorously recounted the confusion and surprise he felt during the incident.
Following a series of events, including taking excessive pills to cope with his fear of flying and finding himself unexpectedly in Mexico with a fellow rehab attendee, Gazza had to contact his father to explain the situation, confused about his whereabouts.
Gazza, who recently underwent emergency surgery for stomach ulcers after collapsing from drinking neat gin, now bears a significant scar above his belly button, stemming from the surgery to address his condition. Notably, he has tattoos dedicated to Regan and his stepchildren, Bianca and Mason, who are both prominent reality TV personalities.
His interactions with fans at live events have become a new source of fulfillment for him, replacing the excitement of his playing days. Gazza often recounts his illustrious England career and peak moments, including encounters with influential figures like Princess Diana, Elton John, and George Clooney, post his iconic stint in the 1990 World Cup.
A book titled “Paul Gascoigne Eight,” published by Reach Sport, is set for release on October 23rd, available for pre-order on Amazon.
