The Met Office has issued fresh weather alerts as Storm Benjamin moves closer to the UK, causing potential travel disruptions. Yellow rain and wind warnings will cover significant parts of the UK on Thursday as Storm Benjamin sweeps through, with England and Wales likely to experience travel disturbances and localized flooding. Forecasters from the Met Office also cautioned about the possibility of power outages and service disruptions in some homes and businesses, along with potential road closures due to flooding.

The affected regions in England include areas where Chief Meteorologist Rebekah Hicks highlighted the impending heavy rain and strong winds. The rain is anticipated to start from the southwest and progress northeast across England and Wales on Thursday, creating challenging driving conditions and flood risks in certain areas. Additionally, strong winds are expected along southern coastal regions.

Thursday morning is expected to bring strong north-westerly winds to western parts, with gusts ranging from 45 to 55 mph, potentially reaching 55 mph near coasts. Simultaneously, northerly winds will strengthen across eastern areas, with gusts of 50-60 mph widespread and up to 70 mph near some coasts. In the event of Storm Benjamin intensifying, there is a slight chance of localized wind gusts exceeding 70 mph temporarily.

Given the uncertainty surrounding the track and intensity of the low-pressure system, the public is advised to stay updated with the latest forecasts and warnings as adjustments are likely to occur swiftly.
