Many users, particularly those with Samsung devices, are facing screen flickering issues while using the Gmail app. Some users have reported complete disappearance of text or seeing blank white boxes instead of messages. Frustrated users have taken to social media platforms to express their grievances, with one user named Jeremiah voicing his concerns about the flickering problem on folding phones like the Samsung Fold.
Complaints have also surfaced on Google’s support forums, with users describing how the screen flickering makes it impossible to read emails. The problem seems to be related to Android System WebView, a core component that enables apps to display web content within the app itself.
Google product expert Kimiya Kitani acknowledged the issue, particularly affecting devices like Samsung tablets. The problem has been escalated to Google for resolution. While the exact number of affected users is unknown, reports indicate that Samsung foldable devices and certain Galaxy tablets are most impacted.
As a temporary workaround, Kitani suggests rotating the device to stop the flickering. Users can open emails in portrait mode, switch to landscape mode until the screen displays correctly, and then revert to portrait mode. This workaround may provide relief until Google releases a permanent fix.
