The provincial watchdog for law enforcement is looking into a collision involving a police car and a civilian vehicle in Pickering, Ontario. According to the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) spokesperson Monica Hudon, the incident occurred on Kingston Road around 7:30 p.m. as the Durham Regional Police Service officer was en route to an emergency call. The crash took place at the intersection of Kingston Road and Brock Road, resulting in injuries to the occupants of the civilian vehicle. A child in the civilian vehicle sustained a serious injury.
Durham police confirmed that their officers were heading to a call when the collision occurred. The SIU was notified and began its investigation, as stated by Constable Nick Gluckstein in an email to CBC Toronto. Following the incident, Durham police announced on social media that Kingston Road was temporarily closed at Brock Road in both directions, with southbound traffic on Brock Road from Finch Avenue also being impacted. By early Saturday morning, the roads had reopened for normal traffic flow.
