The Canadian government has sanctioned a $76 million emergency assistance package for Flair Airlines to alleviate financial strain caused by the escalating cost of jet fuel. Flair CEO Len Corrado expressed appreciation for the support, highlighting government acknowledgment of the industry’s challenges and commitment to maintaining competitiveness.

The Canada Enterprise Emergency Funding Corp. disclosed that the financial aid aims to counterbalance surging fuel expenses and enhance affordability of air travel. The loan, facilitated by the Crown corporation, mandates repayment within four years, offering below-market interest rates.

In a parallel development, Transat A.T. Inc., the parent company of Air Transat, has secured $430 million in financial aid post the onset of the Iran conflict in late February. The conflict-induced surge in energy prices has led to a near doubling of jet fuel costs compared to a year ago.

Additionally, Porter Airlines recently benefited from a $125 million bailout loan, as disclosed by the government. This strategic financial intervention aims to stabilize the aviation sector amidst ongoing economic challenges.
