Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen voiced her frustration with receiving unsolicited beauty advice. Frederiksen, aged 48, expressed on Instagram that upon returning from a trip to Ukraine, where she faced air raid sirens amidst the ongoing conflict, she was greeted with a message from a plastic surgeon offering to address a perceived flaw on her nose.
Having received numerous messages critiquing her appearance over the years, including comments about her teeth, hair, and a supposed ‘wart’ on her nose, Frederiksen shared a screenshot of the plastic surgeon’s proposition without disclosing the individual’s identity. She firmly responded, stating, “I’m content with my body — I don’t need a male plastic surgeon’s opinion on it!”
As a Social Democrat and Denmark’s second female prime minister currently serving her third term, Frederiksen is one of Europe’s most seasoned leaders, having led the country since mid-2019. She has taken a firm stance against U.S. President Donald Trump’s interests in Greenland, a semiautonomous region of Denmark, and remains steadfast in supporting Ukraine against Russia’s aggressive actions.
Emphasizing her acceptance of her own appearance, Frederiksen affirmed on Instagram that she respects others’ choices and urged individuals to engage in more meaningful conversations rather than focusing on her physical features. She expressed feeling offended by the unsolicited beauty advice, extending empathy to those who also contend with societal pressures regarding physical appearance.
