Xbox recently revealed that a previously exclusive title will be available on PlayStation starting next month. Avowed, initially launched on Xbox and PC on February 18 last year, is now set to debut on PlayStation 5 almost precisely one year later. RPG enthusiasts can now pre-order the game on the PlayStation Store for £39.99, with the official release date scheduled for February 17.

Crafted by Obsidian Entertainment, Avowed immerses players in the RPG universe of Pillars of Eternity. Gamers assume the role of a ‘Godlike,’ a mystical entity dispatched as an envoy to investigate a spreading plague in the Living Lands.

The game offers a selection of three distinct classes, each offering a unique gameplay experience tailored to individual preferences. Interactions with a diverse cast of characters and decision-making in dialogues significantly impact the outcome of various quest lines.

In addition to its PlayStation 5 launch, Obsidian will also roll out a substantial anniversary update accessible to PC and Xbox players. Noteworthy features include a New Game+ mode and a photo mode. Moreover, players can explore a new weapon type and play as a new race, providing ample incentives for a replay in the Living Lands.

Despite receiving minimal awards by the end of 2025, Avowed garnered positive feedback from both critics and gamers. It currently holds an 80% score on Metacritic, with reviewers applauding its robust RPG mechanics and immersive world-building.

For now, Avowed is poised for a digital release exclusively on PlayStation 5, as physical pre-orders are not yet available. While the Xbox version included a Steelbook, it contained only a digital edition code.

This PlayStation 5 release aligns with Xbox’s trend of expanding the availability of its previously exclusive titles to other platforms. Later this year, fans can anticipate the debut of Halo on PlayStation for the first time with Campaign Evolved.

After a year of updates, trying out Avowed seems highly recommended if you haven’t done so already. While it may not entirely fill the void left by the anticipation for The Elder Scrolls VI, the involvement of the team behind Fallout New Vegas brings it remarkably close.
