“Canadian Basketball Hall of Fame Welcomes Star-Studded Class”

Date:

The Canadian Basketball Hall of Fame’s 2026 inductees, featuring former NBA player Jamaal Magloire, ex-Carleton Ravens men’s head coach Dave Smart, and Olympic flag-bearer Miranda Ayim, were scheduled for induction on Thursday evening. Magloire, known for his 12-season NBA career, made history as the first Canadian to play for the Toronto Raptors in 2011 and earned an all-star nod in 2004 with the New Orleans Hornets. He later transitioned to coaching, contributing as an assistant coach for the Raptors during their 2018-19 championship run and currently holding the position of vice-president for the Scarborough Shooting Stars in the Canadian Elite Basketball League.

Smart’s tenure as head coach of the Carleton men’s program marked a period of dominance, with the Ravens securing 13 U Sports championships under his leadership. Ayim, a prominent figure in Canada’s senior women’s national team, notably served as a co-flag-bearer alongside rugby sevens player Nathan Hirayama at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. The 2026 Hall of Fame class, unveiled on July 2nd, also includes players Michael Meeks, Anna Stammberger, Dan Meagher, and Teresa Kleindienst, coaches Peter (Doc) Ryan and official Janice Deakin, as well as builder Dr. Andrew Pipe, rounding out the distinguished 10-member group set to be enshrined in St. Stephen, N.B.
