A variety of investment opportunities will be presented by Prime Minister Mark Carney at an upcoming investment summit in Toronto. The projects, detailed in a 66-page “prospectus” obtained by CBC News, cover sectors such as energy, mining, infrastructure, technology, and transportation. The summit, scheduled for September 14 and 15, aims to attract $1 trillion in investment from both international investors and Canadian business leaders.
The investment opportunities are categorized into 8 sectors, including conventional and clean energy, mining, marine infrastructure, power utilities, digital technology, advanced manufacturing, and transportation. Some of the notable projects listed in the prospectus include an expansion of the Port of Churchill, an offshore wind project in Nova Scotia, a West Coast oil pipeline, and an LNG terminal project.
While some projects like the Ksi Lisims LNG terminal are ready for construction, others are in the early stages of assessment. The prospectus also outlines plans for a high-speed rail line between Edmonton and Calgary and a significant oil pipeline connecting Alberta to a deepwater terminal in British Columbia.
Additionally, the document highlights opportunities in clean energy, including nuclear power, carbon capture, and renewable energy projects across Canada. It also positions Canada as a leader in artificial intelligence, offering investment prospects in data centers and quantum computing technology.
However, certain projects like the Alto high-speed rail and airport privatization plans are notably absent from the list. The government’s initiative to diversify investment sources and strengthen economic ties beyond the U.S. is emphasized amid ongoing trade tensions. The summit aims to showcase Canada’s potential for sustainable growth and innovation across various sectors.
