The UK’s most influential Black individuals have been honored by the Powerlist 2026, acknowledging those with African, African Caribbean, and African American backgrounds who wield substantial influence in the UK.

At the top of the list is Afua Kyei, the Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director at the Bank of England. Kyei, a prominent finance leader, is responsible for overseeing the financial governance of the £1 trillion balance sheet, driving funding reforms, and spearheading essential national infrastructure upgrades for Payments. She is also a strong advocate for diversity and climate disclosure.

Expressing her gratitude, Kyei stated, “Being recognized as Number One on the Powerlist in its 20th year is a tremendous honor. This award signifies representation, visibility, and opportunity to me. I am particularly pleased that someone from the public sector and financial services is being acknowledged in this manner.”

Kyei emphasized the importance of representation, stating, “Seeing oneself reflected in unexpected spaces can reshape one’s beliefs about what is achievable. I hope my journey inspires others to pursue their aspirations and believe they can reach the pinnacle of success.”

The Powerlist, celebrating its 20th anniversary, highlights trailblazers who have shattered barriers, redefined success, and inspired future generations. The honorees will be feted at the Powerlist 2026 and Celebration of Black Excellence Awards at The Grosvenor House Hotel in London, hosted by Jeanette Kwakye MBE and Tim Campbell MBE.

Michael Eboda, CEO of Powerful Media Ltd, reflected on the impact of the Powerlist, underscoring its role in showcasing role models who motivate others. He praised Afua Kyei for exemplifying the leadership, resilience, and vision that the Powerlist was established to honor.

In addition to Kyei, the top 10 includes notable figures like Ian Wright, a former England and Arsenal footballer turned advocate for equity in sport, and Dame Pat McGrath, the renowned makeup artist and founder of the billion-pound brand Pat McGrath Labs. Other influential individuals on the list are entrepreneur Steven Bartlett, actor and philanthropist Idris Elba OBE, and Emma Grede, CEO and Co-Founder of Good American, among others.
