Lapland in Finland is a magical destination this time of year, offering the opportunity to meet Santa Claus, witness the Northern Lights, and interact with reindeer in the beautiful snow-covered surroundings.
One parent, Jen Carr, from Nottinghamshire, saved £500 by booking a trip to Lapland, Finland, instead of Lapland UK. Originally planning a visit to the UK-based winter wonderland, Jen discovered that a trip to Lapland UK could cost them a hefty £1,100.
To cut costs, Jen researched cheap flights to Lapland, Finland, and found affordable direct return flights from London Stansted for £103 per person. They also saved on parking fees by utilizing a friend’s driveway for free airport parking.
Accommodation proved to be a challenge due to high prices in Rovaniemi, the main Lapland city. However, Jen secured a room at a reindeer farm an hour away for a reasonable £187 for a two-night stay.
Despite staying outside the main Lapland hub, Jen and her group plan to enjoy free activities like sledding and potentially seeing the Northern Lights. They opted for a car hire at £147 for flexibility during their stay.
Jen emphasized the cost-saving benefits of being resourceful, sharing meals, and avoiding pricey attractions. Their total cost, including flights and accommodation, came to just £149 per person. Jen recommended researching, flexibility, and minimizing additional expenses for affordable travel experiences.
