A recent study revealed that trust among British individuals towards the United States has significantly declined since Donald Trump assumed presidency. The research indicates that the majority of people (56%) now express distrust towards the US, a stark increase from the 40% recorded shortly after Trump’s re-election in November 2024.

Only one-fifth of Brits now place trust in the United States under Trump’s leadership, a notable decrease from one-third in the previous year. This shift in sentiment is attributed to Trump’s inconsistent stance on various international matters, including his response to the Russian conflict and the perceived negative impact of a supposed “trade deal” with the UK.

The report, set to be released on the first anniversary of Trump’s return to office, highlights the European Union as the UK’s most dependable partner, according to a YouGov poll conducted on behalf of Best for Britain advocacy group. Former British Ambassador to the US, Sir Kim Darroch, criticized Trump’s wavering approach towards the Russian invasion of Ukraine, emphasizing the need for the UK to strengthen ties with the EU, particularly in matters concerning security and defense.

In response to the evolving political landscape under Trump’s administration, the Mirror has introduced an exclusive US Politics WhatsApp community for readers to stay updated on the latest news and developments. By joining the community, members will receive real-time updates and exclusive content directly on their phones.

Naomi Smith, Chief Executive of Best for Britain, emphasized the importance of pragmatic collaboration with the EU for economic stability and collective security. Smith highlighted the necessity for Labour to accelerate cooperation with Brussels to address the electorate’s concerns over living costs and enhance the UK-EU relationship.
