Irish firefighter Terence Crosbie has been convicted of sexual assault at Suffolk Superior Court in Boston. The 39-year-old was found guilty of assaulting a 29-year-old woman during festivities on St Patrick’s Day in March 2024. Following over 15 hours of deliberation, the jury reached a verdict, and Crosbie is scheduled for sentencing on October 30.
Upon hearing the verdict, Crosbie’s relatives and companions, who were present in the courtroom, became emotional, breaking down in tears and covering their faces with their hands after the conclusion of the five-day trial at Suffolk Superior Court, as reported by Irish Star.
Crosbie was apprehended from an Aer Lingus flight shortly after being interrogated by detectives from the Boston Police Department. It was revealed in court that Crosbie had reserved a 10:10 pm Aer Lingus flight to Dublin on March 16, 2024, after his interview with the police.
Upon arrival at Logan Airport, Crosbie discovered an unlisted earlier flight to Dublin at 6:30 pm that same day and promptly switched to the earlier departure. The court was presented with body camera footage from a Massachusetts State Police Sergeant, showing Crosbie being escorted off the Aer Lingus flight.
During his stay in Boston for the St Patrick’s Day parade with a group of Dublin firefighters, Crosbie’s victim recounted meeting Crosbie’s hotel roommate, Liam O’Brien, at the Black Rose pub on the evening of the incident.
The woman detailed their interactions, including chatting, dancing, and sharing a kiss at the pub before departing together for the Omni Parker House hotel in Boston. She testified that upon reaching the hotel room with O’Brien, they engaged in unprotected intercourse, after which she went to the bathroom.
The woman described falling asleep on a separate bed from O’Brien and waking up to another man, identified with an Irish accent, sexually assaulting her. She emphasized that the assailant was not O’Brien, with whom she had previously engaged in consensual sex, stating, “I knew it wasn’t Liam because he was still asleep.”
After leaving the Omni Parker House hotel, the victim messaged her friend and coworker about the distressing incident. She expressed her dismay and discomfort in a series of text messages, indicating that she had been violated by a man telling her that she desired it and that his friend couldn’t fulfill her needs.
The victim sought medical assistance at Massachusetts General Hospital, where she reported the alleged assault.
Crosbie vehemently refuted all allegations against him, asserting that he did not commit the crime. During his testimony, he mentioned encountering the accuser briefly and not knowing her name.
He claimed to have been in the hotel room when O’Brien returned with the woman, but he promptly left the room. Video evidence from the pub, street, and hotel on the night in question was presented in court.
Hotel surveillance footage showed Crosbie sitting near the sixth-floor lifts for nearly two hours before returning to the room, assuming that O’Brien and the woman had concluded their encounter.
The jury, consisting of six men and six women, found Crosbie guilty of assaulting the woman. Sentencing is set for October 30.
