It’s an exciting time for fans of the Fallout franchise as reports suggest that remasters of Fallout 3 and New Vegas are in the works. According to sources, Microsoft is planning to release updated versions of these classic titles. This news follows the recent remaster of The Elder Scrolls Oblivion, which was unexpectedly dropped in April 2025.

The possibility of a Fallout 3 remaster first surfaced in leaked court documents related to Microsoft’s acquisition of Blizzard. These documents hinted at remasters of Oblivion and Fallout 3, with one of them already being realized. Now, it seems that New Vegas is also slated for a remaster, which is understandable given its popularity compared to Fallout 3. New Vegas was developed by Obsidian, a studio now owned by Microsoft in addition to Bethesda.

Speculation suggests that Obsidian may be involved in a Fallout project, especially since Tim Cain, one of the series co-creators, recently joined the studio. However, there has been no official confirmation of this yet. The remasters are likely to follow a similar approach to the remaster of Oblivion, utilizing Unreal Engine 5 for graphics and the original game engine for the gameplay.

While there is no confirmation from Microsoft or Bethesda regarding the remasters, Todd Howard, the studio lead, hinted at increased focus on the Fallout franchise in a recent interview. This aligns with the success of the Fallout TV series and ongoing support for Fallout 76. With Fallout 5 still far on the horizon, remastering these classic titles could keep fans engaged in the interim.

In related news, a Fallout-themed collaboration is set to launch in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, offering players the opportunity to engage with the Fallout universe through in-game content. It remains to be seen how these remasters will be received by fans eagerly awaiting more from the Fallout universe.
