British Airways has unveiled a significant change that will impact its loyal customers just before the holiday season and amid the busy travel period. Starting on Monday, December 15, 2025, the airline confirmed an increase in the price of Reward Flights, affecting both the Avios and cash components of the fare. Reward Flights are flights booked using Avios points.
The price hike will apply to all British Airways flights and its partner airlines. The airline cited reasons for the increase, including rising Air Passenger Duty, third-party charges, and ongoing inflation.
British Airways provided examples of the price adjustments on its website, such as a return trip from London to New York during off-peak times. The Avios points required for this flight will see an increase of up to 14,000 Avios starting from December 15.
Another example highlighted by BA is an off-peak one-way flight from London to Geneva. The Avios points needed for this route will also see a rise.
In an email sent to customers on December 3, British Airways explained the reasons behind the price changes, mentioning factors like Air Passenger Duty, third-party charges, market conditions, and inflation. The airline emphasized that Reward Flight Saver flights still offer great value to members.
For travelers with existing bookings wishing to make changes, British Airways clarified that if changes are made before December 15, the current rates will apply. However, changes made after that date to the time or date of the flight within the same seasonality and destination won’t incur additional Avios charges.
