After a long silence, Ubisoft appears to be making progress on the much-anticipated remake of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. Recent activity on a separate Prince of Persia domain name suggests that updates are underway, hinting at a potential imminent release.
Speculation is rife that the Sands of Time Remake could surprise fans with a sudden launch, possibly in January. This aligns with predictions from industry insider Tom Henderson, who anticipates the game’s debut before the rumored release of the Assassins’ Creed Black Flag remake, rumored for March 2026.
Ubisoft’s last public mention of the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake was back in June 2024 during the Ubisoft Forward event. The reveal included a new CG teaser trailer and set a target release year of 2026.
The remake, which entered full production at Ubisoft Montreal with support from various co-dev studios, aims to preserve the original essence while enhancing aspects like combat and storytelling for a modern audience. Despite being announced in 2020, the title faced delays, and gameplay footage remains unseen.
Gamers had hoped for a gameplay reveal at The Game Awards 2025 but were left disappointed. The trend of shadow-dropping games, as seen with recent titles like Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion Remaster and Hollow Knight Silksong, could indicate Ubisoft’s strategy for a surprise launch.
If Ubisoft successfully launches remakes of two classic titles in quick succession, it could mark a significant year for the developer.
