A mother is facing a devastating situation after a fire destroyed her residence, leaving her and her seven children with nothing. Hayley Lundie, 30, expressed feeling trapped in a nightmarish scenario as their council-owned dwelling in Knowle, Bristol was engulfed in flames on Monday afternoon.
The incident, which occurred at approximately 2:40 pm on October 20, mobilized firefighting crews from Bedminster and Temple to swiftly respond and extinguish the fire. Following the event, Avon Fire and Rescue Service initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the blaze.
Hayley claimed that the fire was a culmination of her persistent efforts to get Bristol City Council to rectify faulty electrical issues in her home, as highlighted by a surveyor who deemed the property unsafe. Despite seeking assistance, she felt neglected and unheard by the authorities.
The family, consisting of Hayley, her partner, and children aged between eight months and nine years, moved into the council property in April 2024. Now, they are confronted with the daunting task of finding new accommodation after losing all their belongings.
Hayley’s struggles began when she reported various safety concerns to the Housing Disrepair Team, citing issues with the property’s electrical system. Despite repeated pleas for action, she felt ignored and left in a precarious living situation.
