The aftermath of a destructive tornado in Paris has left a trail of devastation in the outskirts of the French capital. The twister struck an area just ten miles north of Paris on Monday evening, resulting in one fatality and nine serious injuries. The Val d’Oise region bore the brunt of the tornado, prompting a significant emergency response that saw residents evacuated and seeking refuge in a gym.
Dramatic footage captured the moment three cranes collapsed in the midst of the chaotic weather event. Emergency services, including around 80 firefighters, 50 police officers, and 20 ambulance service members, rushed to the scene. Four individuals were left in critical condition following the disaster.
Among those affected was a 23-year-old construction worker who tragically lost his life on a construction site. The powerful winds tore roofs off buildings, causing widespread destruction. Authorities described the tornado as “sudden” and “unusually intense,” sparking a cleanup operation in the affected area.
The Keraunos observatory, a French weather monitoring organization, reported that the tornado likely stemmed from a “supercell-type storm.” These storms are known for their rotating updrafts of air that can lead to severe weather conditions, including tornadoes, damaging winds, and large hail.
French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez expressed his condolences for the victims and pledged support for the affected communities. The disaster left homes destroyed, residents seeking shelter, and a community grappling with the aftermath of the destructive tornado.
